Type - Segment Analysis

Silane segment holds the largest share in the Adhesion Promoter Market in 2023. Silane coupling agents, which are synthetic hybrid inorganic-organic compounds, are used to promote adhesion between dissimilar materials. They are good at promoting adhesion in silica-based materials such as porcelain. However, adhesion in non-silica-based restorative materials such as zirconia, metals and metal alloys are not satisfactory. A solution to this problem may be surface conditioning of the restorative materials. Currently, a widely used surface-conditioning method in dentistry is tribo chemical silica coating. After this treatment, a silica layer is formed on the surface so that the silane coupling agent can react chemically to form a durable bond with non-silica-based materials. Moreover, this treatment increases surface roughness, which will enhance micromechanical interlocking for bonding.

Application - Segment Analysis

Adhesive sector has been the primary market for Adhesion Promoter in 2023. Adhesive, also known as glue, cement, mucilage, or paste, is any non-metallic substance applied to one or both surfaces of two separate items that binds them together and resists their separation. The use of adhesives offers many advantages over binding techniques such as sewing, mechanical fastening, thermal bonding, and others. These include the ability to bind different materials together, to distribute stress more efficiently across the joint, the cost effectiveness of an easily mechanized process, an improvement in aesthetic design, and increased design flexibility. There are a large number of adhesive types for various applications.  They may be classified in a variety of ways depending on their chemistries (e.g. epoxies, polyurethanes, polyimides), their form (e.g. paste, liquid, film, pellets, tape), their type (e.g. hot melt, reactive hot melt, thermosetting, pressure sensitive, contact, etc.), or their load carrying capability (structural, semi-structural, or non-structural).

End Use – Segment Analysis

Paints & Coatings holds the largest share in the Adhesion Promoter Market in 2023. The diversity of paints and coatings makes our world more colourful and multifaceted. Besides the esthetic perception most coating systems have an additional protective effect on the material. Aside from the growing technological and economic demands, ecological aspects have become increasingly important for modern coating systems. The paint and coating industry is thus subject to a permanent innovation process. For both paint applications (coatings) and adhesive applications, the development of products with a low percentage of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and a high (outdoor) durability are a major focal point within our activities. We work both on the development of routes to new building blocks (monomers) for coating components, and on the synthesis of coating components.

Geography - Segment Analysis

APAC dominated the Adhesion Promoter Market with a share of 44%, followed by North America and Europe. Countries such as India & China are the major players in this region for Adhesion Promoter Market. Adhesion promoters (AP) are bi-functional materials that increase adhesive strength between the coating and the substrate and sometimes are referred to as coupling agents. Unlike priming systems, adhesion promoters are generally applied at thinner film thicknesses. An adhesion promoter’s effectiveness depends on both the substrate and the adhesive being used. Surface pre-treatments, such as solvent cleaning or mechanical etching and corona treatment, can be used with adhesion promoters as part of a pre-treatment method.

Drivers – Adhesion Promoter Market

Growing packaging sector

Packaging is among the high growth industries in India and developing countries @ 22-25% per annum and becoming a preferred hub for packaging industry. Currently the 5th largest sector of India's economy, the industry has reported steady growth over past several years and shows high potential for much expansion, particularly in the export market. Costs of processing and packaging food can be up to 40% lower than parts of Europe which, combined with India's resources of skilled labor, make it an attractive venue for investment. A high degree of potential exists for almost all user segments which are expanding appreciably-processed foods, hard and soft drinks, fruit and marine products.

Implementation of Stringent Environment Regulations

Stringent governments’ regulations towards health care and dental care will further enhance the market growth, as more people become aware of it, they would visit more in the dental clinics. Adhesion promoters, or coupling agents, are chemicals that act at the interface between an organic polymer and an inorganic substrate to enhance adhesion between the two materials. Organic and inorganic materials are very different in many ways, for example, compatibility, chemical reactivity, surface properties, and coefficient of thermal expansion, such that forming a strong adhesive bond between these two dissimilar materials is difficult.

Challenges – Adhesion Promoter Market

Impact of COVID 19

The rapid spread of coronavirus has had a major impact on global markets as, major economies of the world are completely lockdown due to this pandemic. Because of this major lockdown, suddenly all the consumer market has started to show zero interest towards purchasing any goods. One of the major difficulties, market is facing are the shutdown of all kinds of International transportation. Global crisis for all sectors including paints and coatings, which was hit by slowing demand in goods’ production and exports had slowdown the market for adhesion promoter.

Health issues regarding adhesion promoter

Silane is a highly inflammable, pyrophoric, and reactive gas that constitutes a significant fire and explosion hazard. Its inhalation can cause respiratory tract irritation. Contact can severely irritate and burn the skin and eyes. High exposure can cause headache, nausea, and dizziness. Mice exposed to 10 000 ppm for 1 h or to ≥2500 ppm for 4 h develop acute necrosis of renal tubules. Mice exposed to 1000 ppm for 6 h per day, 5 days per week for 2–4 weeks, suffer only mild respiratory tract irritation. Silane is mutagenic in bacteria.
