Rheology modifiers are coating additives that control rheological characteristics of the fluids. These additives are the prime ingredient that controls properties and characteristics of fluids such as paints, coatings and inks. Rheology modifiers help in formulation and regulation of flow behavior of various paints, coatings and inks. The flow of the substance is modified by improving the viscosity. Without these additives, the sag resistance of the liquid would be very low. These can be organic or inorganic additives. During brushing applications these modifiers aid to reduce spreading and spattering of paints and coatings. The rheology modifier averts sedimentation of the paint’s pigments in the storage boxes.
