Butyl Rubber is the synthetic elastomer obtained from the copolymerization of isobutylene and isoprene. It possesses resistance to chemical, thermal, aging, ozone and weathering properties. Regularbutyl, Bromobutyl, chlorobutyl are the types of Butyl Rubber. Due to its flexible nature, Butyl Rubber is widely used in automobiles, chemical, pharmaceutical, packaging and construction industries. The demand of tires and tubes and other products in automotive industries stimulates the usage of Butyl Rubber in the Market.
Inner Airtight tubes encourage the manufacturers to introduce weightless tires so as to improve the fuel economy, handling and durability. Approximately 86% of butyl rubber is being used in tires or inner tubes currently. Butyl Rubber is used for inner tubes of trucks, buses, cars and aeroplane tyres due to its versatility, abrasion, environmental friendly and low rolling resistance properties. Butyl rubber is generally difficult to handle during manufacturing because of its tendency to trap air, blister, and creep. Use of these rubbers in the innerliner tires enhances air retention performance, adhesiveness of tire and tire durability. Increase in vehicle production, Replacement of tires, and changing trends have led to the growing demand for Butyl Rubber in the automobile industry. It is however not recommended for use when in contact with petroleum oils and fluids. Moreover it is also used for conveyor belts, condensor packaging and shock absorption for industrial purposes.
