Sulfur Dioxide, also known as SO2, as a chemical compound is a toxic gas with a pungent, irritating and rotten odor.  Sulfur dioxide is used as an intermediate for the manufacturing of sulfuric acid in which sulfur dioxide is first transformed to sulfur trioxide, then converted to oleum, which is finally converted to sulfuric acid. Apart from this, sulphur dioxide is used in a wide range of industrial applications like reagents, preservatives, refrigerant, as a reducing agent, biochemical and biomedical applications, winemaking etc. Increasing demand for sulphur dioxide in waste water treatment is expected to remain the key growth driver during the period of study.
