Aerosol market is anticipated to witness tremendous growth generating more than $90 Billion in revenues by 2023 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 3% during 2018-2023. Personal care is the largest application segment globally with market share of over 50% in 2017, followed by household application segment. Increasing disposable income along with rising standard of living is fueling the usage of personal care and household products.

Europe region held major share in this market followed by North America, both in terms of revenue and volume. Asia-Pacific region is estimated to witness fastest growth in terms of CAGR during the forecast period especially given the rising demand from countries such as China, India, Thailand and other developing economies in the region.

What is an Aerosol?
An aerosol is defined as a suspension of fine solid particles or liquid droplets in a gas. The word ‘aerosol’ also refers to the dispenser or package used to change the ingredient inside the container into an aerosol. Although these refers to a finished product, it is made up of four components: the container, the valve, the actuator and the cap.

What are the major applications for Aerosols?
Aerosols have wide range of applications in many sectors of industry ranging from personal care to agriculture. They are used as testing instruments for calibrating sensors such as smoke sensors, alcohol sensors, in addition to testing, sampling equipment and air filters.

Aerosols are employed in various end user applications such as automotive, household, food and beverages and personal care among others. A diverse group of manufacturers are available both at regional and international levels in the market and the industry is moderately fragmented. Production differentiation is at minimum level whereas the competition lies in the market based on pricing and packaging provided.

They are also used for medical treatment of respiratory diseases also in CFO sprays for injuries and muscle pains. Also in fuel injection systems and other combustion technology. Still, they are further being used for causing artificial rain where aerosol is sprinkled to precipitate the cloud.

Aerosol Market

Market Research and Market Trends of Aerosol Ecosystem
  • Tinplate: Tinplate has started to emerge as a product of choice for manufacturers across the globe. The segment experienced 8% growth in 2017 over the previous year with over 705.3 million units being filled. In the same year aluminum which is widely used had experienced a 2% decline indicating that the industry is switching to Tinplate. This is given that Tinplate can be manufactured in many shapes and pained with many colors. The wide range of customization options is driving the market.
  • Increase in Research and Development activities can be observed in the aerosol container industry. Aluminum cans were majorly being used as they have a greater flexibility for base paint and label design. In addition they are consistent at higher pressures given the continuous body design and a relatively high universal compatibility with contents of the container. The market is witnessing a shift from aluminum to Tinplate, with Tinplate generating almost 45% of the revenues in 2017
  • Rising Demand from the household segment:  Insecticides based Aerosols are commonly being used to control pests. This is given the ease of use of the product and its ability to efficiently reach areas which are normally not accessible. In addition to the aforementioned change in consumer behavior can be observed in terms of moving from conventional traps and nets which are not very efficient in urban dwellings. In addition to this the air fresheners market also contributed for huge revenues in the Aerosol Industry.
  • Development of a new discipline called Nanoparticle Aerosol Science and Technology (NAST) is emerging in the aerosol industry. This technology studies formation, properties and behavior of nanoparticles in gases which are smaller than 100 nanometers (0.1 micrometers). NAST has been undergoing rapid development driven by its practical applications in many different fields. This technology is applicable in characterization and control of ultrafine aerosols emitted by air pollution sources, industrial production of nanoparticle reinforcing fillers such as carbon black and fumed silica and catalysts such as titania and many other such applications
